Gauhati University undergraduate classes to start on November 1

GUWAHATI: Classes for bachelor degree courses in Gauhati University (GU) will start on November 1, after a long break due to the ongoing pandemic, the institute said in a notification on Thursday.

Classes to the first, third and fifth semesters of all undergraduate courses would commence from November 1 in all affiliated colleges and GU campus, the notification stated. State education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said the state government would come up with a protocol to reopen educational institutions between October 15 and 20.

Postgraduate (PG) third semester classes in affiliated colleges and GU would also start on November 1, while PG first semester classes would begin from November 18.

The next semester-end examinations for UG and PG courses would be held between March 8 and March 26 next year. On the other hand, the semester break has been shortened from March 27 to April 4, 2021.

Classes are scheduled to commence for even semesters in affiliated colleges and GU campus from April 5, 2021, while examinations will be conducted from August 9-21. There would be a semester break from August 22-29 and the next academic session will commence from August 30.

According to the GU academic calendar for 2020-21 and 2021-22, the UG and PG admission process for the new session is to be completed by October 31.

No mention, however, has been made on reopening of hostels in the notification. Himanta had recently said reopening hostels of educational institutions was highly unlikely due to the virus threat, despite the possibility of resumption of classes from November 1.

Meanwhile, the Class XII state board examination, 2021, is proposed to be held from the last week of February 2021. The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council said in this connection, the process of online form fill-up for all categories of examinees would start from November 1 and conclude on November 30.
