Every year, India celebrates teachers’ day on September 5th, which marks the birthday of the second president of our country, philosopher, statesman Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

In 1962, some of Dr Radhakrishan’s students approached him for permission to celebrate his birthday, and he requested them to observe it as teachers’ day, to recognise their contributions to the society. Since then, India has been celebrating teachers’ day on September 5th.
