“Technology-driven education will be the focus, PM eVIDYA programme for multi-mode access to digital/online education to be launched immediately. Top 100 universities will be permitted to automatically start online courses by May 30,” Sitharaman said. The top 100 universities will include IITs, IIMs, institutes of eminence, national institutes as well as private universities.
Under this programme, 12 DTH channels will be introduced, one each dedicated to classes 1 to 12 to support those who do not have access to internet. The minister said the government would launch ‘Manodarpan’ – an initiative for psycho-social support of students, teachers and families for mental health and emotional well-being – with immediate effect.
The PM e-VIDYA initiative will bring together digital platforms such as Diksha (the nation’s digital infrastructure for providing quality content for school education), Swayam (the online courses in MOOCS format), radio, community radio and CBSE podcast Shiksha Vani, special e-content for visually and hearing impaired, and IITPAL (for IITJEE/NEET preparation).
