Special online program on Teacher’s Day held by Punjabi University

PATIALA: Centre for E-Learning & Teaching Excellence (CELTE), Punjabi University, Patiala organized a special online program on Teacher’s Day. The program was relayed on YouTube channel also.

Prof. B.S. Ghuman, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala also released an e-report on Best Practices in Online Teaching at Punjabi University that has been actively continuing its all teaching and academic activities during COVID-19 through various online platforms. The University has set up this Centre for E-Learning & Teaching Excellence (CELTE) to facilitate online teaching practices.

Prof. Devinder Pal Singh Sidhu, Registrar proposed formal vote of thanks and Prof. Vishal Goel, Deputy Director, CELTE, conducted the program.

While presiding over this function on Teacher’s day, Prof. Ghuman very fondly remembered all his teachers who taught him since his Primary School to the Higher Education days. Vice-Chancellor said what he is today, is all because of his teachers. He said that a teacher is always an inspiration source for his students. Therefore it becomes the duty and responsibility of the teachers that they meet the expectations of the students and society. A teacher should be passionate towards life long learning. While talking about the qualities of an ideal teacher, he said along with hard-work, honesty, integrity, openness and adaptability, a teacher should also be able to deal with every situation. The present difficult times have further necessitated that we keep pace with the changing times, he said. He further stressed that we must ensure that we reach our students in a very simple language so that every student understands everything. While talking specifically about aims and objectives of the Punjabi University, Patiala, he said, we should give proper attention to promote education in our mother tongue also.

Prof. Suresh Kumar, Nodal In-Charge, ‘Ek Bharat Sareshth Bharat’, Punjabi University, Patiala expressed his views in detail about ‘Human Values in Education. Teaching is a very sacred profession where human values can never be ignored, he said.

Prof. Gurdeep Singh Batra, DAA, who is Director, CELTE also, while congratulating and welcoming all the faculty on the teacher’s day said that it is a matter of great pride for us that the university has been actively continuing with online teaching modes in the changing times. He said that this Centre is taking all the possible measures to facilitate online teaching and preparing various online learning modules for the teachers.
