Technology won’t replace teachers: Prof. A K Bakshi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Emerging trends in technology in education sector won’t replace teachers, but teachers who shun technology will be phased out soon, said Prof A K Bakshi, vice chancellor, PDM University, Haryana. “Teachers who use technology effectively will replace those who won’t use it at all”, Bakshi said while addressing participant teachers in the ongoing faculty development programme hosted by the Department of Chemistry of Bishop Moore College, Mavelikkara.

The week-long FDP organised in association with St. John’s College Agra and Guru Angad Dev Teaching Learning Centre of the MHRD will conclude on Tuesday. The programme is conducted through online platform because of the pandemic situation.

Bakshi who detailed the emphasis given to technology in the National Education Policy-2020 asked teachers to embrace the changes in teaching methods and use them for improving quality of higher education.

Dr. Vimal Rarh, National Coordinator of the FDP, S P Singh, Principal, St. John’s College, Agra and Jacob Chandy, Principal, Bishop Moore College also addressed the ianugural session.

Prof. Chandrabhas Narayana, Dean, Research and Development, JNCASR, Banglore, Dr. A. Sreekanth, Associate Professor in Chemistry, NIT, Trichy, Dr. Jobin Cyriac, Associate Professor in Chemistry, IIST, Trivandrum, Dr. Vinesh Vijayan, Associate Professor in Chemistry, IISER, Trivandrum led various sessions.

Around 180 faculty members and research scholars from different universities in the country are participating in this FDP.
